Residential Renovation

Residential Unit:

A residential premise with an external entrance with or without a basement.  This category includes detached, semi-detached or row-type housing, farmhouses, modular or prefabricated houses.

 

Residential Renovation:

Definition: any change to the original wiring including repair and replacement of the devices.

 

The fees for a residential renovation are entirely dependant on what work is being performed.  Typical residential renovations include service work, interior wiring work, or both.

 

Non-Contractor rates may differ from the contractor rates and are designated throughout the Fee Schedule as "NC".

 

Minimum Fee

The minimum fee for an Application for Electrical Inspection of any wiring installation is $69.

Service Work

For service work when the only change being made is to the consumer service, panel or meter, please select the ‘Panel/Service Chge / Repair / Alter / Rep Mast’ item and the description that best describes the service work being performed, i.e.) Service Upgrade.  Please provide the Amperage in the appropriate field, and a specific description of the work in the Additional Fee Description field, i.e.) “60-100A Service Upgrade”.

 

The fee for inspection is:

·        For a contractor, $61 for one visit

·        For a non-contractor, $109 for one visit

 

Additions/Alterations With Service

For Service work being done with interior wiring, please select the Additions/Alterations With Service item and the description that best describes the service work being performed, i.e.) Service Upgrade

 

The fee is based on the number of Outlets being added, moved, or altered in any way.  For a definition of Outlets, please see the Glossary/Description section at the end of this help file.

Additions/Alterations No Service

For interior wiring work without any service work, please select the Additions/Alterations No Service item.

 

The fee is based on the number of Outlets being added, moved, or altered in any way.  For a definition of Outlets, please see the Glossary/Description section at the end of this help file.

Miscellaneous Equipment

Furnaces, Hot Water Heaters, A/C, Battery Chargers, Generators, Heat Pumps, Submersible Pumps, Miscellaneous Mechanical Equipment, Whirlpool/Hydromassage Bathtubs, Saunas, Yard Lights, Decorative Yard Lights.

For Miscellaneous Equipment, please add the appropriate 'Misc Equip - (Yardlights, Furnaces, AC)' item, enter the number of pieces of equipment in the Quantity field, and provide a description of the equipment in the Additional Fee Description field.

 

The fee for a miscellaneous piece of equipment is $61 (NC $65) for the first piece and $82 (NC $87) for two (2) or more pieces inspected at the same time at the same location.

Above Ground Pools/Hot tubs/Spas

For Above Ground Swimming Pools/Hot Tubs/Spas, please add the ‘Pools - Above Ground/Hot Tubs/Spas’ item.

The fee is $61 (NC $65) for the first inspection visit and $42 (NC $44) for each subsequent inspection visit which includes inspection of pool sheds or cabanas if installed by the same contractor and inspected during the same inspection visit.  If subsequent inspections are required additional fees will apply.

 

In Ground or Indoor Pools

For In ground or Indoor Pools, please add the ‘Pools - In ground or Indoor’ item.

 

The fee for in ground or indoor pools is $109 (NC $116), which includes a maximum of two (2) inspection visits which includes the inspection of pool sheds or cabanas if installed by the same contractor and inspected during the same inspection.

 

Primary & Secondary Lines

Overhead Lines

For overhead lines select the 'Primary/Secondary Overhead Line' item and enter the number of poles in the Quantity field.

The fee for inspection of overhead primary and secondary lines, or combination of both, is $103 (NC $109) for the first 10 poles or fraction thereof, plus $61 (NC $65) for each additional 10 poles or fraction thereof.

Underground Lines (underground trench)

For a trench being installed and inspected at the same time as other work being done by the same contractor, select the 'UG Trench Inspection @ Same time' item. There is no charge for this item input the Quantity of 1.

For a trench being installed requiring a separate inspection from any other work being done, or if it is the only item being done, select the 'UG Trench Separate Inspection Req'd' item. The Quantity should be in number of hours with a minimum of 1. The fee for inspection of underground installations including duct banks is $115 per hour or fraction thereof (minimum 1 hour).

 

Central Metering

For a Central Metering installation please add the ‘Central Metering’ item.  The Quantity for Central Metering should be 1.

 

The fee for Central Metering is $61 (NC $65).  Additional fees are required for inspection of poles and other equipment.

 

Consulting Service

The fee for consultations is based on the amount of time required for the consultation.

 

The fee is $115 per hour or fraction thereof. Please enter the Quantity in number of hours.

 

Please note:  Consultations must be submitted on separate applications from other work.

 

Travel Costs

The following basic principles shall be used in determining travel costs:

·        Existing fees include travel provision for Inspector’s normal route, normal schedule and for normal accessibility.

 

·        For travel beyond the normal route, outside of the normal schedule or involving non-normal accessibility, an additional charge is required to recover full travel costs.  (Each territory has defined routes or areas for which travel charges may be applied.  These are applied consistently to each application for inspection in that area)  Full travel cost includes:

o       Out-of-pocket expenses for transportation equipment or services (e.g. rental fees, tickets);

o       A 10% administration charge on all out-of-pocket transportation costs if the customer requests ESA to make travel arrangements; and

o       $115 per hour or fraction thereof spent by the Inspector.

 

Note:  Additional Travel fees, if applicable, will be added to the application by ESA at the time of processing.
